Bible's Best Life Hacks

January 05, 2020

The Bible is filled with creative, practical nuggets for wise living – “life hacks” – that are meant to make our lives better. Through the first quarter of 2020, we’ll spend time each Sunday morning exploring a specific life hack and discovering how we can use it to live the way God intended. What's this item about? Yahweh Saves

September 15, 2019

The Old Testament tells the story of a man named Joshua, whose name literally means “Yahweh Saves.” The New Testament tells the story of a man named Jesus, whose name means the same thing. This autumn, our Sunday morning sermons will explore the wonderful ways in which the story of the first man points us toward the promise of the second.

Guest Speakers

September 15, 2019

Occasionally we invite missionaries, trustees, or others to be guest speakers at our Sunday morning worship service.  The recording of their message may be available here to listen or download.  Also a CD can be made of the message for you.

Ten Churches

June 30, 2019

At first glance, the churches we have today don’t resemble the churches of the New Testament. Modern architecture, ministry activities, and denominational structures are more a product of the modern world than the biblical example. But there is much we can and should learn from the many churches described throughout Scripture. Each Sunday this summer, we’ll identify and study a specific church in the New Testament and see what God would have us learn about our own.

Behind The Scenes

October 14, 2018

The Bible is most often celebrated for its amazing stories: miracles, wonders, and adventures that capture our imagination. Bible heroes like David, Paul, and Moses are remembered and honored for the parts they played in these stories. But what about folks like Phoebe, Bezalel, or Shiphrah? These names and others from “behind the scenes,” as it were, played roles that we don’t remember quite as well. This fall, we’ll look into their stories and the things that they did to make the stories of their more famous counterparts possible. What's this item about? What makes it interesting? September 02, 2018

Late in his life, the Apostle Paul penned a letter to his protégé, a young pastor named Timothy. In his words, preserved for us in the book of 2 Timothy, we hear the heart of a man who would leave a strong legacy for those who followed. Paul’s legacy was passed not only to Timothy, but to us as well. How do we receive it? How faithfully do we pass it on?

Summer Of Love

July 01, 2018

One of the most often-quoted passages of the Bible comes from 1 Corinthians 13, where we read, “Love is patient, love is kind . . .” The verses that follow paint a beautiful portrait of the kind of agape love that defines God. Yet, most of us find love to be elusive, difficult, and sometimes even impossible. All summer long, HRCC’s Sunday morning sermons will explore this great love that God’s people are called to. We’ll seek the truth, unveil the misnomers, and construct a more biblically-founded concept of what the love of God looks like.

What's Up With That?

April 22, 2018

Christians do some pretty unusual things! Some of even the most common practices of Jesus’s followers don’t make much sense to people outside the Church, and there are plenty of Church folk who haven’t ever really thought about why we do them in the first place. What does the Bible really have to say about things like water baptism, speaking in tongues, or fasting? Join us on Sunday mornings in April, May, and June while we explore these topics and others like them.

An Orderly Account

December 17, 2017

Luke described his Gospel as “an orderly account” of the life of Jesus. Luke said he wrote it that way so that we could be confident in understanding the truth concerning the things we’ve been taught about Jesus (Luke 1:1-4). Luke started with the Christmas story, and followed the life of Jesus right through the Easter story, so this year, HRCC will do the same.  Join us between Christmas and Easter as we learn from Luke’s “orderly account” of the life of Jesus.
